David Lynn – The Surprise Package Of The 94th PGA Championship.

If you are looking for a surprise showing in this year’s PGA Championship then look no further than England’s David Lynn.

Lynn’s appearance is just his second showing in a Major after having made his debut in the 2003 Open Championship.

It would suggest the game of the now 38-year old Lynn has not been up to standard in qualifying for the Majors.

But therein lies the problem with Lynn and it’s just that he has never sought to enter qualifying for either the U.S. Open or Open Championship.

The Stoke-on-Trent  born Lynn is just not comfortable qualifying for those two Majors.

And if you ask Lynn he would answer:  “Why should I want to compete in the Majors?”

So here’s why.   For the past 12 European Tour seasons, Lynn has finished inside the top-90 since winning his European Tour card in 1997.

He’s earned close to Euro 7m in career earnings.

Last season, Lynn collected Euro 788,413 in prize winnings without teeing up in any of the four Majors to finish 24th in the Race to Dubai. The effort was just nine places shy of his best season in 2004 whne he captured the KLM Open and his only Tour victory.

www.golfbytourmiss.com has bumped into Lynn just a couple of times this week but we will be speaking with the 6 foot 3 inch Brit to find out what he’s been doing well this week in South Carolina to be standing so tall on the Kiawah Island leader board.

Lynn posted a third round 68 to move inside the top-20 at one under par.

“I was trying not to take on flags when they’re cut by runoffs and things like that, and obviously keeping it in the fairways off the tee, it allows you to play where you want to into the greens,” he said.

“I just played pretty steady and made a few putts, three, four of them.

“I have been feeling quite good, and my game has sort of turned a corner a few weeks ago.  Practice has felt good.  I feel like I’m hitting it well.

“Yeah, I came here this week thinking my game feels pretty good, so why not.

“And as for tomorrow, I’d just like to come out just in the same frame of mind as I have done today.  I was pretty relaxed out there.

“Of course, it will be a different day tomorrow, so just try to get off to a nice start then hopefully get back in the zone and see if I can post a number.”
