Italy’s Matteo Manassero now faces an anxious fortnight long wait for confirmation he has qualified for next month’s US Open.
The 19-year old needed to finish seventh in the Spanish Open to move from 64th on the World Rankings and into the leading 60.
Manassero achieved that feat by finishing in a share of seventh in Sunday’s concluding event in Seville.
The Verona-born golfer then moved to equal 60th and alongside Korean Y E Yang when the World Rankings were updated this morning.
Cut off point for U.S. Open qualification ends next Monday July 21st and with Manassero not contesting either the $US 9.5m Players Championship in Florida and being first reserve for next week’s Volvo World Match-Play.
He will hope now that he holds his 60th world ranking ahead of the June 14th commencing US Open in San Francisco.
The Italian had displayed his frustration in posting a final round 70 in Seville however it was a third round 76 that spoilt his Spanish Open hopes.
But he was on hand to help fellow Italian Francesco Molinari celebrate his third European Tour success.
