Woods Shown The Arizona Exit Gate By Watney.

All hope Tiger Woods had of capturing a fourth WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship was snuffed out on day two by compatriot Nick Watney.

Watney, who defends his Cadillac Championship next fortnight, showed Woods the Arizona exit gates with a 1up victory on the Dove Mountain course.

A day earlier Woods had hung on a day earlier to defeat Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano but there was no denying Watney on day two.

Woods departure will surely make a dent in Arizona crowd figures while there will be plenty of golf journalists who seem to hang on every Woods word who will now have to source an alternate subject.

Watney won the first hole with a birdie and while Woods went 1up after four holes it was all Watney and with the 30-year old four time PGA Tour winner never headed after winning the seventh.

Watney is contesting the $US 8.5m event for only a third occasion and for a third year running he’s advanced to the last 16.

Last year Watney defeated Anthony Kim and Lee Westwood before losing out at the 19th hole to fellow American Ryan Moore.

A year earlier on debut in 2010 Watney was beaten in the third round 1up by double U.S. Open champion, Retief Goosen.
