Organisers of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic are hoping to woo Alexis Thompson, the younger sister to Nicolas Thompson back to Dubai next month.
Nicolas, who turned 29 on Christmas Day, has been affored an invitation by event organisers to compete in Dubai where his sister captured last month’s Dubai Ladies Classic.
The 16-year old Alexis created golfing history last September in becoming the youngest ever winning of an LPGA event in capturing the Navistar LPGA Classic.
Then in December she became the second youngest winner of a Ladies European Tour event in winning on the Emiraes course by four strokes.
Alexis will turn 17 on the second day of next month’s (February 10th) Omega Dubai Desert Classic and if she agrees to accept the invitation organisers no doubt will put her into the Pro-Am.
Her brother Nicolas was born on Christmas Day, 1982.
He’s a former USA Walker Cup player who earned his PGA Tour card for 2006 but struggled to retain full membership by making just 15 of 32 halfway cuts and finishing 180th on the moneylist.
Thompson returned to the secondary Nationwide Tour in 2007 winning the New Zealand PGA Championship that later helped to secure back his PGA Tour card.
He recorded six top-10s with his best finish being runner-up in the Ginn sur Mer Classic.
But it was back to the Tour School at the end of 2009 with just one top-10.
However organisers of the February 9th starting European Tour event in Dubai have shown faith in Nicolas by offering him an invitation to tee up in the 23rd staging of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
