Rock Misses U.S. Open Entry Deadline

New BMW Italian Open winner Robert Rock failed to register before today’s (TUES) signing on deadline at Congressional.

The Englishman was at the American Embassy in London on Monday applying for a visa to travel to Washington D.C.

He had been in a mad rush on Sunday night in Turin cutting short his post round media conference in order to make a flight back to London.

However when U.S. Open registration closed at 10am today Rock was among four players who hadn’t registered for the season’s second Major.

Rick Kowlaski from the USGA said:  “It’s not uncommon for players to register past the deadline cut-off time.

“However we are aware of Robert’s situation and as long as he arrives by tomorrow night he should be fine.”

But if for some reason Rock is stranded in the U.K. his place in the field goes to Scotland’s Richie Ramsay.

Ramsay was involved in a bizarre incident at U.S. Open qualifying when he sought to attend a colleague’s wedding reception in Belfast.

If Ramsay is called into this week’s Major he won’t have far to travel as he is currently residing at his house in Atlanta.

And tomorrow also is Ramsay’s birthday.
