Close Encounter With Senator John McCain

No sooner had Lufthansa announced that ‘First Class’, ‘Senator Class’ and ‘Star Alliance Gold Card’ passengers could board Flight 418 from Frankfurt to Washington D.C. and a genuine Senator in John McCain appeared.

McGain, who lost the U.S. Presidential race to Barak Obama, had been in Germany for a few days on business.

Senator John McCain speaks with a passenger in the bus to the terminal after arriving from Frankfurt into Washington Dulles Airport.

He was escorted to the airport by German officials and took a window seat in Business Class accompanied by an assistant.

The arrival of the Republican Senator certainly aroused interest among the American born passengers boarding the Boeing 747-400 headed direct to the States.

A few passengers got a snap shot of McCain while a few also asked for his autograph.

McCain also aroused much intesest among the cabin crew who I observed from my front row seat in Economy spent a lot of time early on in the flight walking through Business Class to check out their VIP passenger.

And not to be left out, I also asked McCain when the plane touched down at Washington Dulles if he would kindly sign one of Lufthansa’s ‘Business Class’ menus.

McCain did not hesitate and then asked me where I was from and thanking me for the approach.

Lufthansa menu kindly signed by Senator John McCain.

Also on board the flight was Scotland’s in-form Scott Henderson who was returning to Jacksonville for a week.

Jamieson is in his rookie season on the European Tour and has been very impressive, as well as putting himself well in position to be named the ‘Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year’.
