In an historic first, British-born players now occupy the top-three positions on the World Rankings.
When the rankings are officially updated tomorrow (Monday) morning Luke Donald will still be No. 1, Lee Westwood No. 2 and new U.S. Open champion, Rory McIlroy will be No. 3.
Mcllroy overtook Martin Kaymer in the rankings with the German and former World No. 1 back to No. 4 after finishing in a share of 18th place in the BMW International Open in Munich.
McIlroy was at home in Holywood when he learnt of his rise to No. 3.
“It’s great to have moved up to No. 3 in the world and the great thing, it’s a step closer to the ultimate achievement of World No. 1,” he said.
It is the first time since the World Rankings were inaugurated in April, 1986 that British born players have been one, two and three in world.
