Hurricane Katrina – Nine Years On Destruction Still Evident.

Nearly nine years after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast and evidence of the destruction is still evident.

Of course, the flood waters have long ago drained but an inspection of the region to the east of New Orleans during Zurich Classic week revealed many people just have not rebuilt their houses.

All that remains is the stilts on which those houses were obliterated by the 175 mph winds in August 2005.

Here is a collection of photographs from a visit to the region of Yscloskey and the Yscloskey Canal last week along with a number of New Orleans archival images from one of the deadliest hurricanes in American history.

And while you wonder if the houses that have been rebuilt can withstand another Hurricane Katrina there is signs, like the large levee and closing and opening gates, that steps have been taken to counter any future hurricane flooding.
