Affable Englishman James Morrison is shining brighly in forging his way to three shots clears of his rivals as he not only looks to secure a victory-winning return to full DP Tour playing rights for next year’s 2026 DP World Tour season.
Morrison, 40, birdied four of his opening seven holes and also three of his closing six in a round of 67 and move to 13-under in the Rolex Grand Final and thc closing event on this year’s secondary Hotel Planner Tour in Majora.
The two-time DP World winner ended his official 2025 DP World season having lost full main tour playing rights by ending the 2024 season 122nd on the Race to Dubai money list.
‘I’ve got to try and tell myself that I’m the experienced man here and that I’ve done it before.’

Morrison had no option but to take a step down and compete on the secondary Hotel Planner Tour. He did so while being afforded entry into just eight 2025 DP World Tour events but sadly making the halfway cut in just one.
However thanks to decent showing on the Hotel Palnner Tour he arrived on the Spanish holiday isle earlier this week, and with his 13-year old son Finley his caddy, having contested 36 Road to Majorca events, making the cut in nine and capped by success in June’s Bolt Play 9 event in France.
Now with a round to play in Majorca Morrison’s assured, should he win of leaping 28th places to overall eighth on the 2025 Hotel Planner money-list and with this a triumphant return to the 2026 DP World Tour.
“I felt fine again today,” Morrison said.
“It’s all about routine and sticking to what you’re doing every day and I’ve done that. I’ve played nicely today. Played great at the start of the round, a bit of a wonky middle patch, got lucky on ten but made a great four there, and battled around the middle part of that back nine, then finished strongly, so very happy.
“To do it like that is very special. I’ve still got one day to go. I’ve been here before so many times on the DP World Tour. I could shoot 105 tomorrow, I could shoot 65, I’m open to any of that and I’ve been there and done that both ways. I’ll do the same thing tonight with the family. I’ll have a glass of wine, taste a few slices of ham and come to the course tomorrow and see what happens.
A GLASS OF & SOME SPANISH HAM …

“I didn’t quite get the speed of the greens at the start of the week but I’m feeling a bit more comfortable on the greens now. Putting is my strength, so if I can lean into my short game tomorrow then I should do okay. I held all of the right putts today, especially on the back nine. You’ve got to lean on previous experiences and I look around at the guys in the field behind me and they’ve never won on the DP World Tour. I’ve got to try and tell myself I’m the experienced man here and that I’ve done it before. I’ve got to keep going with that theory.”
If Morrison does win he would also become the seventh Englishman to win the Rolex Grand Final after Marco Penge (2023), Nathan Kimsey (2022), Matt Haines (2010), James Hepworth (2006), Richard Bland (2001) and Ian Garbutt (1996).
Scotland’s Euan Walker, who led for the opening two days, posted a ‘moving day’ 72 to drop back into a tie for second on 10-under with South African Daniel Van Tonder.
And fellow Scot David Law’s hope of topping the money list have been run off the rails with his horror third round 75 seeing him drop back to share of 18th place on 4-under.
The good news for Law he is projected to finish second on the money list that finally guarantee also his return to the 2026 DP World Tour.
South African JC Ritchie, who arrived in Majorca leading the money list shares sixth place on eight-under and is projected to finish the season as HotelPlanner Tour Number One and would become the first player from South Africa to win the Rankings.
