The Tartan duo of Scott Jamieson and Grant Forrest are men on a double mission after strong showings on day one of the BMW International Open in Munich.

Jamieson grabbed six birdies in a four-under 68 to be sharing sixth place and just a shot off the lead while Forrest eagled the sixth, hitting a 4-iron into three-feet and then holing a 30-footer for birdie at the last in ideal morning scoring conditions on the host Eichenried Munchen course.

Forrest, and contesting the opening day in the Bavarian capital in company of fellow Richie Ramsay, matched Ramsay’s three-under 69 after Ramsay had earlier capped his round with three birdies in his opening five holes.

All three Scottish are first and formost looking to win this week’s 36th hosting of the BMW Internatiional Open while there is the added incentive of qualifying for next week’s mega-rich Genesis Scottish Open.

Jamieson said: “The key to my round today was that I drove the ball well and also gave myself chances on the par-5s.

“Also, and unlike last week when I would get some momentum going and be dropping shots, I didn’t do that today so that was pleasing”.

Jamieson’s quest to compete next week mirrors what he has been seeking since December 2012 and that is to capture a second Tour victory.

He said: “I’d like to be playing the Scottish Open next week but I have to win this week, so that’s the goal.

“Saying that, I have got off to a great start today so it would be great to keep that going and let’s see what happens”.

Forrest is in a far better position with next week in mind as he and is currently first reserve into the Scottish Open, and after being in the field for every Scottish Open since a first in 2019 there is no prize for guessing how much he wants to play next week on  a golf course just a few miles drive from home.

The local Craigielaw attached golfer said: “I’m first reserve into next week, so it looks I may have to win this week, if I’m to play next week.

“I’m also not into The Open so I would rather not have a few weeks off at this important time of the year”.

Ramsay no stranger to the heat of competition of a Scottish Open and while he is currently 15th reserve into the Scottish, one ahead of Jamieson he would need an invitation to be next week’s ‘home national open’ field.

Indeed, looking at this week’s BMW International Open there is rounghly 70th of the Munich field not teeing-up next week in East Lothian.

Defending BMW champ Ewen Ferguson posted a three-under 75 that included a 14th hole double while fellow Scots Connor Syme and Calum Hill one-over 73s

Five players – England’s Marco Penge,  Malaysian Gavid Green, China’s Wenyi Ding, Frances’s Ugo Coussaud and Dutchman Darius Van Dreel – share the lead thanks to five-under 67s.

American Patrick Reed, and winner last week at the LIV Golf tournament in Dallas, signed for a one-under 71.
