Ramsay Staring At Bizarre Scenario Of Teeing-Up In Kentucky & Maybe Earning Scottish Open Tee-Time

Bernie McGuire, Munich, Germany

Scottish golfer Richie Ramsay is staring at a bizarre scenario in travelling close to 4,000 miles to compete on the PGA Tour next week in suburban Louisville, Kentucky but then learn he’s secured entry into the DP World Tour’s Genesis Scottish Open just a short drive from his Scottish residence.

Ramsay is currently not exempt into next week’s $9m premier Scottish event but with a family USA holiday being planned for the week of the Open Championship, and event he’s also not qualified, the Ramay’s are heading to the States a week earlier.

Both he and Scott Jamieson have entered the $4m ISCO Championship in suburban Hunstborne in Louisville where the winner, if not exempt, earns full 2026 PGA Tour membership.

As it is, if Ramsay and also Scott Jamieson don’t qualify for the Scottish Open they’ll be each competing in the $4m Kentucky tournament.

Ramsay said: “At this stage I don’t know what I am doing next week, at all.  I’d love to be teeing-up in my own Scottish Open but I’m in the field for Kentucky.

“The only advantage for me is we are due to be going on holiday to America the Tuesday after the Scottish, so if I do play in Kentucky and it looks like I will, it’s only an hour or so flight away from Atlanta”.

However, Ramsay also could be facing the bizarre situation of being in Kentucky and getting a call-up into Scottish Open as fellow Scot Grant Forrest is currently first reserve and is expected to get the call-up to compete.

If so, Ramsay would move to first reserve and would need a player, already in the field, to withdraw for Ramsay to tee-up at the Renaissance Club.

Ramsay laughed off the scenario saying: “There’s a solution to all these problems and that is for me to play better”.

As for his third round BMW International Open, Ramsay grabbed five birdies in a four-under 68 to move to just outside the top-10 and eight-under.

Ramsay said: “It was a really good day’s work. I played nice on the front but a I missed a couple of short putts which would have been nice to hold.

“So very happy with four-under and very happy with the work that I have put into my game.  I just feel quite content with what I am doing.

“Hopefully, there’s a low one in the bag tomorrow and there’s also a little bit of luck from the wind”.

Jamieson heads into the final round here in Munich sharing 10th place at 12-under, signing for a third round 70 and trailing six adrift of the lead and needing to win in Munich to gain entry into the Scottish Open.

The Florida-based Jamieson was asked his view on the scenario Ramsay faces.

Jamieson said:  “I will definitely be in America next week so I’m miles away from Scotland.

“Honestly, it is disappointing not to play in Scotland, but as long as I know what I am doing then it’s fine. I wouldn’t be in the situation like, I guess, Grant and Richie are in.

“Richie is waiting to see if Grant gets in, which is pretty unfortunate as he doesn’t know where he is going and it’s not as though it’s down the road either.”

England’s Daniel Brown posted an eagle and four birdies over his closing eight holes in a score of 65 and seize a one-shot lead at 16-under-par into the final day.
