Ewen Ferguson’s Scottish Open aspirations have taken a knock despite a super second round bogey-free effort only to miss the cut in the defence of his BMW International Open title in Munich.
After a 90-minute delay due to an early morning thunderstorm, Ferguson headed into day two after signing for an opening 75 and then produced four second round birdies and looking to birdie the last but he looked-up on in dismay when his birdie attempt at his final hole lipped out in a four-under 68 for a one-under tally on the host Munich Echenried course where a year ago he brilliantly captured a third Tour title.
In lining-up his putt at the ninth, Ferguson let himself be distracted by movement in his line of sight from players teeing-off the closeby 10th tee.
The Dubai-based Scot ended his round in a share of 68th that was a shot outside the expected two-under cut-off mark when the afternoon half of the draw took to the course however at day’s end the cut moved out to two-under.

Masters champ Patrick Reed, who was grouped with Ferguson for the opening two rounds, produced a pair of 71s for a two-under score but then at day’s end found himself missing out by a shot as the cut-off mark moved to three-under.
Reed, winner of last week’s LIV Tour event in his home city of Dallas, spoke of the double disappointment for both players.
Reed said: “It’s not the result either of us wanted. I thought one of us might scrap in but we’ve both missed out.
“Ewen’s round today was a great effort, shooting a 68 but then there at the last we both burned the hole and it was kind of the story of our rounds as we didn’t get anything going.
“It was just one of those days all three of us in the group were playing catch-up”.
American Davis Bryant brilliantly leads the way posting a nine-under 63 that included a 12th hole ace, and the third hole of his round, to move two shots clear of the field at 12-under.
Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan with a 65 is second at 10-under.
Scott Jamieson finds himself the leading Scot adding a second 68 to be sharing sixth place at eight-under.
Grant Forrest and Richie Ramsay could not be separated after two rounds, out in the same three-ball for two days and shooting similar scores of 69 and 71 to be each just outside the top-30 on four under.
Forrest, who is first reserve into next week’s Scottish Open, is delighted to be playing all four rounds in Munich.
He said: “I had a few good par saves today but with not too many birdie looks, so in saying that it was a good cut to make.
“There is a low score out there, for sure and I’m also pleased with my putting so hopefully I can get a few more to drop over the weekend which will be nice”.
Joining Ferguson in heading home early to Scotland is his close friends Connor Syme, posting scores of 73 and 71 and Calum Hill also with rounds of 73 and 71.
