Scot Calum Hill was taking his time in heading to Munich and this week’s BMW International Open full of positives as he continues to seek a second Tour win this season and also a first time invitation into this year’s up-coming 153rd Open Championship.
In a best finish since winning the Joburg Open in March this year, Hill fell shy by just two shots in earning a maiden major tee-time after signing for a closing 68 for a 10-under tally, finishing in a share of third place at the Italian Open and with Hill needing to either win or be second on his own that would have seen him earn a place into the year’s final major at Royal Portrush.

It was Frenchman Martin Couvra who locked-up one of the two Open Championship tee-times finishing runner-up to countryman Adrien Saddier.
Saddier, 33 ended a 200 Tour event winless drought in tears thanks to a closing 66 for a 14-under tally and two clear of Couvra to also earn his place in a first Open.
For Hill it’s a second occasion in recent years he’s missed out in being so close to qualifying for a first Open and also a first major however in a big plus for the Scot is that at the close of this week’s BMW International the top-5 not otherwise exempt off the Race to Dubai Rankings will be heading to Royal Portrush.
Hill’s Italian Open third place has seen him jump nine places to now be lying 22nd on the money list while another strong display this week at Golfclub München Eichenried could very welll see the Joburg Open champion secure a debut in the game’s oldest major.
Hill said: “It has been a really positive week as a whole aside from a few errors.
“Friday was not a great day but the year of the week was very positive in terms of ball-striking, so very happy.
“It was great having new caddy Stuart Davidson on the bag for a first event as he was all quality and I think we are going to enjoy a good partnership.
“So, I’m looking forward to taking this good form for next week’s Tour event in Munich”.
Fellow Scot Ewen Ferguson, who will defend this coming week’s BMW International Open, posted a closing 74 for a three-over tally.
And Scott Jamieson signed off for a 72 and a five-over total.
