Before last week, 42-year-old Alex Noren had been sidelined with injury for 31 weeks. In his second start back, the Swede is in contention for victory at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Noren posted a ‘moving day’ 66 that including birdieing four of his closing five holes to muscle his way into second place at eight-under and just three shots adrift of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
“It feels good”, said Noren and a winner of 11 pro career tournaments.
“I got it together. I kind of struggled a little bit in the wind with the iron shots I thought and maybe overthought some of the shots but saved myself with some great bunker shots, and the putting was better today.
“Then finally hit some really good ones, 17, 18, for birdies and paid off”.
During Noren’s time away from the game he loves, he kept himself busy coaching his daughter’s softball team.

Now the affable Swede heads into the final round of just a 10th PGA Championship lying second and 18 holes from joining Henrik Stenson as onl y the second Swedish-born golfer to capture a major.
“The only thing, I said that probably to you too, it was a lot easier to have this break when I’m 42 than when I was younger”, said Noren who ended his round birdieing his closing two holes.
!As soon as I kind of could play, I thought I was in sort of the same form I was in before I got injured. But I’m still extremely — not surprised, but I’m fortunate to be in this position this early, yeah”.
