Ramsay Looking To Draw On Scottish Success In Qatar.

Scot Richie Ramsay heads into this week’s 28th edition of the  CB Qatar Masters looking to continue his recent good form.

Ramsay, 41, was just a shot shy of making last week’s three-man play-off at the Bahrain Golf Championship.

His eventual tie for fourth was Ramsay’s best Tour finish since a T3rd result last August in the Czech Masters while it was his 50th top-10 result in 419 Tour events.

Ramsay is making his 12th showing in the event since his Doha debut in 2010, and when he produced a best finish of T32nd. In the ensuing years, he’s struggled with a next best two years ago of T36th and also missing the halfway cut on two occasions.

He said: “I like the Qatar Masters and it’s a golf course. You have to drive it well as there are a lot of cross winds.

“Finding the fairways also is a big advantage as coming out of that Bermuda rough is very unpredictable while the greens are very firm.

“If you look at the history of the tournament the Scots have done well, as it’s always windy.  You can play the ball alone the ground into the greens

“I really like Qatar Masters week, and while other Middle East courses maybe don’t suit me, with the wind we get here in Qatar, I can always put myself in contention there but then its’ all about putting yourself into contention heading into the back nine on the final day.

“So, it’s one of the happiest places I like to play and if I can do that then I will be really content while I am also looking forward to a family holiday at the event (smiling).”

Joining Ramsay this week are fellow Scots including 2022 Qatar champ Ewen Ferguson, Grant Forrest, Scott Jamieson and Doha-based 18-year-old Scottish amateur Dominic McGlinchey, who is a member at the host club.
