McIlroy Joins 25,000 Screaming Fans In The Yellow Wall & Three Fans Recognise Him

Borussia Dortmund is the second most decorated football team in Germany and where you find one of the best and most fearsome stands in European football since it was expanded in the late 1990s – the Yellow Wall.

At 328ft long and 131ft high, the Yellow Wall has a capacity to accommodate nearly 25,000 fans and is the largest single-tiered grandstand in the whole of Europe.

“If you are the enemy, it crushes you but if you have her at your back as a goalkeeper, it’s a fantastic feeling,” former Dortmund custodian Roman Weidenfeller once said of Die Gelbe Wand, or the Yellow Wall.

The Yellow Wall is where passion meets pandemonium, both picturesque and phenomenal. It is unique and inspiring, bringing pride to the people who stand within its embrace and goosebumps to those looking in from the outside. Long may fans bask in its brilliant wonder.

So, what was Rory McIlroy doing at Borussia Dortmund last Friday when Borussia Dortmund took on German League co-leaders Leverkusen.

The World No. 3 revealed ahead of this week’s Rolex Series event he visited the game on his way to Dubai.

“But yeah, yeah, I was sitting with a few friends who actually were going to a Dortmund game in September/October time, Champions League game, and I said, “Oh, I’d love to do the yellow wall.”

“And I saw that Dortmund were playing Leverkusen on, obviously, last Friday night and I was like, “Yeah, I could tie that in on my way to Dubai.

“But yeah, it was just fun, something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve heard so much about the yellow wall and it was cool to experience it.

“The atmosphere was just insane, apart from Leverkusen going 2-0 up after five minutes. But it was, it was amazing”,

In fact, Leverkusen won the match 3 – 2.
