The major winning duo of Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa are just one round shy of not only setting a new The Sentry tournament 72-hole low score but also breaking the current PGA Tour four-round 72-hole low.
Matsuyama leads the way into the last round of the first tournament of 2025 posting a stunning third round 62 to move to 27-under on a defenceless host Plantation course.
Just one shot back in Morikawa and with his 26-under three-round tally of 193 marking a career-low 54-hole score by two shots.
Morikawa, and chasing an eighth pro career success and a first since winning the 2023 ZoZO Championship, has hit 52 of 54 greens in regulation through three rounds of The Sentry; for comparison the PGA TOUR record is 53 set by Mike Heinen (1995 Walt Disney World Golf Classic) and Brad Faxon (1991 Farmers Insurance Open)

The effort by the 2021 Masters champion equalled his lowest 54-hole score in relation to par on the PGA Tour to match the Tour record set by Nick Dunlap (2024 American Express) and Patrick Reed (2014 American Express).
It marks the lowest 54-hole score to par at The Sentry since the event moved to Kapalua in 1999 while the Japanese golfers 192 marks a career-low 54-hole score, previously posting a 193 en route to victory at 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Matsuyama, and again using a centre-shaft putter that has previously helped him to victory , also holds 54-hole lead/co-lead for the eighth time on Tour.
“I just have to play my game, play my best”, when Matsuyama was asked if he was excited headed into the final round.
And when also asked about playing the last day alongside Morikawa and if they talk to each other, he said: ” No, I didn’t really talk much, but he played so well that I just kind of followed his lead, and just kind of kept on”.
The present World No. 6 now needs to shoot a closing day eight-under 65 or better and Matsuyama will not only set a new Sentry four-round record low of 35-under while he would also set a PGA Tour record low.
Likewise, Morikawa would need to post a nine-under 63.
Aussie Cam Smith currently enjoys both records in capturing the 2022 The Sentry with his 34-under 258 total the 72-hole record low on the PGA Tour.
