Scott Jamieson saved the best for last to secure a second top-10 finish of the new season at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in the UAE.
Jamieson, 41, produced a closing bogey-free 67 to share eighth place at 11-under in ideal scoring conditions on the host Al Hamra course, just over an hour’s drive north of Dubai.
Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey stormed to a maiden Tour victory, posting rounds of 68 and three 66s to win by six shots at 22-under-par.
The 27-year-old Madrid golfer grabbed 26 birdies and dropped only four shots to capture a maiden Tour title in his 70th event and with England’s Marcus Armitage (68) a distant second on 18-under.
Del Rey’s winning efforts sees him jump 155 places to 158th on the Race to Dubai money list while he should be confirmed as the new World 135, and up 88 spots, when the World Rankings are updated Monday morning UK time.

Jamieson has contested the RAK event on three prior occasions but missed the cut the past two years while his superb T8th place finish comes following a T9th in last December’s Mauritius Open, and his second event of the new wraparound season.
The Florida-based Scot capped his last round holing a 25-footer for birdie at the par-4 12th hole, a hole that he’d doubled on day one.
Jamieson said: “It’s been a good week here at RAK and especially after a disappointing last week in Dubai, and to turn-up there with hardly any form which surprised me a little.
“So, after a rocky start here on Thursday when I was three-over through eight holes and to finish now inside the top-10 I would have bitten your hand off for it (smiling).
“It all turned around holing a bunker shot at 13 on Thursday and that kind of gave me a kick up the arse.
“The last two days I was also way better off the tee as I was really poor off the tee last week in Dubai and while Thursday this week wasn’t great, it was a bit better on Friday and with the last two days much more like it”.
Jamieson’s effort has seen him jump 27 places to top Scot at 43rd on the Race to Dubai money list.
He’s now headed to Thursday’s starting Bahrain Championship where he will join four other Scots on the Colin Montgomerie designed Royal Golf Club course.
Among them will be Fifer Connor Syme who matched Jamieson’s 67 and shared 22nd place on eight-under.
Syme said: “It’s been a solid, solid week and that’s a nice way to describe it.
“I managed to minimize my mistakes better though saying that I played the 10th hole out there in five-over and that killed me a little bit.
“So, apart from that I picked quite a few birdies so overall pleased with the effort also after being right in the cut mark out there on Friday.
“Looking forward now to Bahrain and then a few weeks off before heading back down to Kenya and South Africa at the end of next month”.
Grant Forrest birdied the last in a 71 for a four-under tally and shared 44th place.
