Bradley: Odds In His Favour Should He Sport A Moustache Into Ryder Cup Showdown

It would seem there is odds of two wins and one loss when it comes to his chances of a victory should USA Captain Keegan Bradley wear his present new-look moustache into Ryder Cup competition later this year at Bethpage Park Black.

Bradley is sporting a ‘moustache’ at this week’s The Sentry tournament in Hawaii.

And the sight of the American licking his upper ‘hairy lip’, as you will notice in the image below, could be a key to current World No. 12 posting a sizzling second round 64 to put himself into contention at 13-under and just three shots off the lead heading to the weekend rounds of the $US 20m event.

“I did it as a joke to my wife and family, and they all thought it was funny and liked it,” said Bradley speaking to reporters when asked about his moustache.

“Now that I’ve played a couple of good rounds, I’m getting nervous; I’m going to have to keep this thing for a while.”

Will he keep the moustache till late September remains to be seen.

GolfByTourMiss has searched the web and we’ve come up with two winning Ryder Cup captains to have been sporting a moustache and one GB & I captain who lost.

Scotland’s Sam Torrance has never been seen without a moustache and he proudly led his European Team to a stunning three-point triumph in the 2002 Ryder Cup at The Belfry.

You then have to go back to 1953 when the moustached USA captain Lloyd Magnum captained his team to a narrow ‘hair on the upper lip, one-point victory over the GB&I captained side of Henry Cotton at Wentworth in the 10th hosting of the event.

The only moustached captain to lose a Ryder Cup was at the inaugural 1927 event when GB & I captain Ted Ray, who long wore a moustache in his career, was handed a massive seven point defeat at the hands of a Walter Hagen USA captained side at Worcester, MA.

So, that means we have two moustached Ryder Cup captains in Torrance and Magnum to have led their sides to victory and one who didnt’t in Ray.

NB:  In writing this article we have not included the full bearded 2018 winning European captain Tom Bjorn nor a similar bearded Darren Clarke, who was the losing 2016 European captain.

Also, if you discover any other Ryder Cup captain with a moustache, and we’ve missed, please let us know.
