... Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Aussie Cam Smith has done probably everything on an individual basis this year but collect the ‘W’.
The champion ‘Down Under’ golfer has contested 14 LIV Golf events finishing second on three occasions and enjoying five other top-10s while the current World No. 101, yes 101st in the world, contested eight ‘other’ events and best results capped recently back home with three top-3s.
The 2022 Open Champion was T3rd in the Queensland PGA, lost to fellow LIV Rippers teammate, Lucas Herbert in the NSW PGA and was then relegated into second by fellow Queenslander Elvis Symle for the Australian PGA Championship, an event he had won three times.
And it was Smylie who six years earlier had been awarded a Cam Smith Golf scholarship to spend time with Smith at his Florida home learning more about the pro game.

Now with just 18 holes of the year remaining for Smith you may sympathise with him that he’s banging on golf’s victory door all season but a lucky 13th individual pro career title has simply alluded him.
Yes, Smith led his Ripper team to a brilliant victory early last month in Texas but it’s now been a handful of days over two years since he last tasted success and that being his third Australian PGA trophy.
“Looking back on my year, it just seems to have been one of those years”, he said.
“It’s been a frustrating year and there’s been many weeks where I seem to have done everything right and someone plays just that little bit better than me.
“You get that in this game and I’ve been through that before but I feel it does make you a better golfer, so maybe that’s coming in the future”.
Looking at Smith’s third round PIF Saudi International scorecard he birdied the second and third holes but it was then 15 straight pars ahead of a closing bogey in his score of 70 to be sharing 11th place at 11-under and six adrift of LIV colleague Joaquin Niemman who was playing the same last match on day three and sign for a 65 to lead by a shot at 17-under.
“I just didn’t hole any putts today and that basically was the story of my round”, said Smith.
“I hit two bad tee shots but there is not that many places around here, even with an average tee shot, you can get yourself into trouble around here.
“I had plenty of good looks but, as I said, but just didn’t putt all that well.
“I just need to go out there tomorrow and trying and being the last round of the year, try and make it a good one. I just hope there’s a still one last good low round in the bag. I’m playing good golf and just need those putts to drop”.
