Tiger Woods has formally advised he will not be contesting next week’s 2024 edition of the Hero World Challenge in The Bahamas.
Woods, 48 issued a near 50-word message on his ‘X’ account confirming his decision not the compete in the event he hosts annually.
In announcing he will not be teeing-up Woods named the three players who will now make-up the field and the tournament headed by defending champ and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp. Excited to welcome our exemptions @JustinThomas34, @JDayGolf and @NickDunlap62 into the field.

It means that the 15-time Major winner will have played just five ‘official’ events this 2024 season with the last being in missing the cut in July’s 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Woods may still contest next fortnight’s PNC Championship a non-World Ranking event where, if he played, his son Charlie would again be his partner and a tournament in Orlando where players can ride in motorised carts
