There was a double record-setting glory for England’s Paul Waring on day two of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Not only did the 39-year-old set a new course record with his 11-under 63 on day two of the $9m event but his 19-under-par tally is a new record for two opening holes in the 72-year history of the DP World Tour.
Waring’s effort is one shot better than Ernie Els’ prior opening two round record 36-hole low of 18-under for a 126 tally the double Major champ set on route to success in the 2004 Heineken Classic on the famed Royal Melbourne course in Australia.

Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie holds the record for a third and fourth round combined 18-under he set with this closing two round tally of 124 at the 1996 Canon European Masters in Switzerland.
When talking of a DPWT first two round low 36 holes to par, Ernie’s 18-under effort is also was the prior lowest.
And looking ahead, Waring is already one shot fewer than the Tour’s straight out 54-hole low and that record currently being held by Swede for his 2006 18-under tally opening 36 holes of 18-under in the Celtic Manor Wales Open.
