Scotland’s David Drysdale capped a very windy ‘Moving Day’ holing a monster 60-foot putt for an eagle ‘3’ mid-round on day three of the Asian Tour’s International Series Qatar in Doha.
Drysdale commenced his round from the 10th tee but it was a poor start dropping shots at his third, fifth and sixth holes (12, 14 and 15 on the scorecard) ahead of arriving at the par-5 18th and a hole dominated by water for much of the way down the left side of the fairway.
Not trouble finding the fairway as Drysdale then found the green with his second shot and after consultation with his wife and caddy Vicky, Drysdale had those watching from the corporate enclosures on their feet when his putt found the bottom of the cup.
Drysdale then kept the momentum going birdieing the first hole or the 10th of his round to get back to level par ahead of a 17th hole bogey in his score of 73 that has him just inside the top-40 with a round to play in the $US 2.5m event.
He said: “I got off to a ropey start as it was tricky in the blustering wind and resulting in a few loose drives finding the rough that cost me.
“I then managed to get it back with the 60-footer for eagle on 18 and then then a birdie at my next, the 1st hole and the 10th of my round.
“So, to get back to level was very pleasing and I played pretty solid from there onwards.
“Stupidly though I three-putted the eighth or my 17th, a par-3 that just looked so fast downhill.
“Never-mind as I’m happy to be playing all four rounds & building some confidence for Phoenix next week”.
Yes, next Tuesday is the start at TPC Scottsdale of the four-round final qualifying for a 2025 Champions Tour card and with Drysdale joining fellow Scot Stephen Gallacher in looking to secure one of just five spots into next year’s over-50 Tour.
American Peter Uihlein leads the way into the Qatar final round albeit now by just a shot at 13-under from compatriot Zach Bauchou.
