Power Posts PGA Tour Career Low In Land Of The Rising Sun

What’s there not to like after you go really low on your first visit to Japan?

Ireland’s Seamus Power could not have been more happier after posting a PGA Tour career low to be right in contention heading to the weekend rounds of the ZoZo Championship and on his first visit to Japan.

In his 186th Tour event, Power brilliantly snatched eight birdies to muscle his way into a share of fourth place and just three off the lead on the host Narashino Country Club course at Chiba.

Power, 37, is seeking a third Tour title and could not have been more happy with his effort in this sixth hosting of the tournament, and also on his first visit to Japan.

“I mean, obviously, when you shoot 62, most things go your way,” Power said.

“It was interesting because it was kind of an unusual start. I ended up having to make a good par save on one, two and three.

“From there on, it was a lot of good stuff; everything felt pretty good. It was good yesterday. I just didn’t make the putts, and today, obviously, I was much better on the greens.

“I really like the golf course. It’s my first time here. I think it’s beautiful off the tee. It looks great to my eye. I just really enjoy it.”

“Yeah, I’ve always wanted to come to Japan,” Power said.  “I was planning on playing last year, but then I got an injury. It’s a place I always wanted to come to. So I would love to come back, to be honest not for a golf tournament.

“We’re kind of getting our hand held this week in terms of how they bring us around. It’s a beautiful country with an amazing history, so it’s something I’m going to come back.

“The fans are fantastic, to be honest. They’re so appreciative of really good shots and it’s just very refreshing, very nice to play in front of. The course is beautiful. I saw it on Tuesday. I was a little tired after the flight, but I thought the sightlines and everything were terrific.

“The fairways are narrow and you’ve got to hit it well. It’s a good setup, and I’d hate to see this place when the greens are firm.

“It’s a good, tough layout. I really like it. I like how it fits my eye and it seems to suit my shots. All in all, a great golf course, I think.”

Columbian Nico Echavarria added a second straight 64 to lead by two shots from the American duo of Taylor Moore and Justin Thomas.

Well done Seamus and keep it going.
