Syme Seeks Drawing On Swiss Good Vibes In Climbing To Hopeful Omega European Masters Success

The Tartan duo of Connor Syme and Richie Ramsay share the leading Scottish honours heading to the weekend rounds of the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.

Syme, 29, added a second round 66 to move into a tie for 10th place at six-under before being joined by 2012 event winner Ramsay who was three-over through 11 holes but then birdied four of his closing seven.

England’s Matt Wallace stormed to the summit with a sizzling 62 and moved four shots clear of the field at 14-under on the host Crans-sur-Sierre layout at Crans Montana.

While a winner last year on the PGA Tour, Wallace is chasing a fifth but also a first DP World Tour title in exactly six years.

In contrast, Syme continues to strive for a maiden Tour title in his 160th Tour start.

And it’s not for lack of trying for the proud Fifer who has made the halfway cut in 102 of those events, producing seven top-3s including finishing third a year ago.

Syme said: “How could you not love competing up here in Switzerland as it’s so nice, and I’m feeding off some good vibes from a great finish last year.

“I did make too many mistakes today to be a little bit better but I’m still in a good position after the opening two rounds”.

Syme’s second round was a mix of seven birdies, the pick being the par-4 17th where he drained an 18-inch gem.

He said:  “I was thinking what could be the winning score this week and though it’s still a long way off, the scoring seems always around the 16-under to 18-under mark so yep, I need a good weekend.

“So, to be seven-under through two rounds is okay and hopefully I can kick on a little bit over the weekend, and have a chance come Sunday”.

Scott Jamieson signed for a 68 to be at three-under and two clear of Stevie Gallacher (72) who made the cut right on the one-under mark.
