Hovland Caddying For Buddy In US Open Qualifier A Day After Winning Memorial

Usually, it’s customary to take a day off after competing in any golf tournament, and you could be forgiven in taking the week off if you’re just won $3.6m in capturing the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial.

No, not champion Norwegian Viktor Hovland.

The now four-time PGA Tour champion was spotted bright and early still in the Columbus, Ohio region back at a golf course but acting as a caddy.  Yes, a caddy.

The new World No. 5 ranked Hovland is caddying for college teammate Zach Bauchou as he looks help Bachou to secure a place in joining him in next week’s next US Open at the L A Country Club.

Hovland had already locked up a spot in the US Open, so he’s donned the bag of Backou, his former roommate and a second-team All-America golfer at Oklahoma State, to see if they can team successfully for Backou to earn a place among the leading qualifiers on both The Lakes Golf & Country Club in the morning and 18 afernoon holes at Brookside Golf Club in the afternoon.

Bauchou, and ranked 1859th in the world, teed off bright and early at 8am local US time at the Lakes Golf and Country Club and among 103 players vying for 11 spots at the Ohio qualifying site,

The Ohio location is among 10 sites, nine in the US and one in Canada, hosting final qualifying for the US Open.

Reports say, Hovland made it to the tee in plenty of time, dressed in shorts and wearing his Ping cap.
