Ramsay Ignites The Belief He’s Up For Soudal (Belgium) Open Success

Top Scot Richie Ramsay  reckons the past three days have ignited the belief he can secure victory at the Soudal (Belgium) Open in Antwerp.

Ramsay, 39, had two holes to play when the threat of lightning halted play for 90 minutes, and with the Scot returning to par 17 and hole a three-footer for birdie at the last.

The reigning Cazoo Classic champion’s five-under 66 has Ramsay sharing fifth place at 11-under, trailing four adrift of Sweden’s Simon Forsstrom who continues to lead the way, adding a 67 to stay one clear at 15-under.

Overwhelming crowd favourite Thomas Detry is lying second at 14-under and with the 30-year-old looking for a maiden DP World Tour title.

Ramsay was off to a flyer with four birdies in his opening nine holes but sticking out like a sore thumb on his card is a double-bogey ‘6’ on 10, and with the Scot bouncing straight back to birdie 11.

He had just birdied 16 to get back to four-under when the siren sounded.

Ramsay said: “It was a bit of an up-and-down day, throwing in a double-bogey but things like that happen in golf and it is how you respond that is kind of the mark of you.

“It got in my head a little bit and I was feeling a bit down but straight away, I put a wedge shot into about a foot at the next for birdie which was a great bounce back, and I managed to nick another birdie there at the end.#

“That made for a really good day, as I am right in the hunt, and it will be the back nine Sunday where the fireworks will start and that’s where I want to be”.

And Ramsay spoke of his work off the course to keep himself in the right frame, including being partial to red wine, chocolate and music.

“A lot of the time it’s gym work, but I’m partial to a bit of red, a bit of chocolate and some nice music. Everybody fails at stuff. The best players in the world fail all the time, like I said with the double it’s how you respond,” he said smiling.

“It got in my head a litle bit, I’ll be honest, and I was a bit down and I thought about what I’d done in the past, people I’ve spoken to and what I’ve done. These are the things I like to do that make me feel good, keep doing them, working hard and the results will come.

“You have got to stay patient, that’s a huge part. The last three days showed me that the game is still there. That ignites the belief that’s always simmering in your stomach”,

The Scot’s effort is a lowest round by two shots in 10 rounds in four events on the Rinkven course.

Peebles Craig Howie is next best of the Scots grabbing a 69 to be at eight-under and just inside the top-20.
