Scottish Teen Sensation Connor Graham Inspired By Tiger Woods

Scottish teen sensation Connor Graham continues to be inspired by Tiger Woods after finishing runner-up in the prestigious Lytham Trophy.

Graham, 15, birdied six of his closing 27 holes and dropped just two shots in the 56th hosting of the event over the famed Open Championship venue.

The young Scot was in the Lytham clubhouse tied for the lead before England’s John Gough birdied the 17th to win by a shot.

Graham said: “Tiger’s always been my favourite golfer because of what’s done for golf. I’ve always liked watching him play, and when he putts really well.

“I’ve been following Tiger ever since I got into golf, as he’s always been such an exciting player”.

Like his father Stuart, and 18-year-old brother Gregor, young Connor is a joint Crail and Blairgowrie member, and it was at Crail he created Scottish Golf history three-years ago in 2019 when at 12-years, and no higher than his driver, he teed-up at the youngest-ever to play in the Scottish Men’s Amateur.

Earlier that year, Graham won the Stephen Gallagher U12 Championships and then in 2017 he had an ace in finishing runner-up at the 2017 British Wee Wonders Championships, while he was third in the US Kids European Championship.

In 2018, and now looking like a young version of Rory McIlroy with his crop of curly hair protruding from under his cap, he made the US Kids World Championships Final at the famed Pinehurst Conor, and also posted an ace in finishing top-20.

With the full lifting of the Covid restrictions, and also a little taller, Graham continues to excel with last year, and at age 14, he became the youngest to reach the finals of the Scottish Amateur.

The Blairgowrie High School student added to his list of wins in 2021 with success in the Barrie Douglas Junior Masters, the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug and The Race to Machrie. Also last year, he starred in the Boys’ and Girls’ Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa and also secured a Great Britain & Ireland boys’ cap in the Jacques Leglise Trophy in Sweden.

Last November, SKY Sports Golf’ Nick Dougherty handed Graham the Junior European Open trophy after his three-shot win in Spain while earlier he was a one-shot first round leader at the Scottish Boys at Murcar.

On the golfing horizon for Graham is selection in next year’s GB & I Walker Cup team at the Home of Golf.
