Expectant Father Martin Kaymer Planning Three Months Away From Competition

The sight these past two weeks in Dubai of a heavily pregnant woman in the company of Martin Kaymer has now lead to news the double major winner will take three months off from January to be with his family.

Irene Scholz is Kaymer’s girlfriend and with the champion German golfer indicating to Golf Magazin that she will give birth in Germany before the family looks to live in Florida and once the baby is born, the current World No. 118 will not play again till  March.

“Our child will be born in Germany and I won’t play any tournaments for three months and only start again in March,” Kaymer told Golf Magazin.

“We’re going to Florida together. The shuttle between America and Europe just didn’t work for me. I could go on with a little bit here and a little bit there, but that’s not my claim and doesn’t get me any further. I am simply someone who makes clear decisions and follows a red line.

“I have found for myself that the beginning of a season is extremely important. Of course, I have optimal training conditions in the USA. But then I came to my apartment and it didn’t feel like home, I was alone and then fled to Germany and thus interrupted the rhythm. The situation will now change and – again – I’m looking forward to this trip”.

The decision to move to Florida will mean the soon-to-be 37-year-old will now play more on the PGA Tour as opposed to recent years when Kaymer has competed primarily on the European Tour.

“I think that I will definitely receive a few invitations with my CV. We have a plan that I want to implement over the next two to five years,” he said also to Golf Magazin

“For me it had been an important point to find out why I was stagnating. In my opinion, I have tried too much to correct my weaknesses and have neglected to develop my strengths. But you gain self-confidence through your strengths. There won’t be a big change. Yes, I have to work on my fitness more and differently.

“My family was and is important to me throughout my career, it is my great strength. Of course, Günter Kessler too, a man who has done a lot right in 20 years of our collaboration. I will try to involve him more intensely”.

Kaymer’s won on 23 occasions since turning pro in 2005 including capturing the 2010 PGA Championship in dramatic circumstances at Whistling Straits along with the 2014 Players Championship and the 2014 US Open.

On the European Tour he’s won three Abu Dhabi HSBC Championships including winning by eight shots over Rory McIlroy in 2011 in the UAE capital though he’s now won since victory at the 2014 Grand Slam of Golf
