The Hills Are Alive With Golfers – Austrian Open Ending Four-Month Tour Lockdown

The Irish trio of Gavin Moynihan, Niall Kearney and Robin Dawson will help herald the return to competition of the European Tour at today’s commencing Austrian Open.

First it was F1 returning to racing last week in Austria and now the European Tour will get back to competition starting Thursday at the Diamond Resort course located around 35-kilometres from Vienna.

It will mark four long months since Spain’s Jorge Campillo defeated Scotland’s David Drysdale on March 8th to capture the Qatar Masters.

Also, it will be a first taste of competition for all three since contesting February’s Dimension Data Pro-Am in South Africa, and an event on the secondary Challenge Tour.

“I knew I’d get into it, I’d played the venue a few years ago at the Shot Clock Masters”, said Moynihan.

“The good thing is Austria has hardly had any cases at all over the last few months. They’ve been golfing here since the start of April so there was no question about coming.

“It’s one of the tougher courses we play. It’s quite firm, slopey greens and it’s windy at the moment so if it stays like this it will be a tough week.

“I played a practice round with Robin Dawson and Niall Kearney and the place looks great so looking forward to getting started.”

Highest ranked in the field at 104th in Dutchman Joost Luiten
