Sixteen Year Old Casey Jarvis Joins South African Greats Claiming Amateur Double

Sixteen-year old teenage sensation, Casey Jarvis has now joined the greats of South African golf following an emphatic 7 & 6 triumph in capturing the 2020 South African Amateur (Match-Play) Championship in Joburg.

Jarvis defeated Scotland’s James Wilson in a very one-sided final.

Wilson had been 1up after 11 holes before Jarvis, who had captured earlier this week the South African Amateur (Stroke-Play crown, won the 13th with a birdie and then proceeded to storm his way to 4up after the opening 18 holes of the 36-hole final on the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC course.

Jarvis went 5up after 20 holes and then 6up through 22 holes and then 7up when he birdied the 26th before claiming victory at the 30th hole.

Last week Jarvis shot a 25-under par tally at Randpark Golf Club to win the South African Amateur Stroke Play title to secure the South African amateur in the same calendar year.

Jarvis now joins the likes of countryman Ernie Els as winner of the top South African amateur double with Els winning the South African Amateur in 1986 and the stroke-play title in 1989.

In 2017, the Boksburg-born JarvisĀ  captured the English Boys Under-14 Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship title in producing a wire-to-wire performance at the Manchester Golf Club to lift the celebrated Reid Trophy on a winning score of four-under 212.

At the time Jarvis said that winning the national championship in England surpasses his successful defence victory in the 10-11 age category of the 2015 Optimist International Championships after winning at Trump Doral in Florida a year earlier in the same age bracket.

Of note, Tiger Woods won in the same age bracket in 1986 and then was successful a year later in the 11-12 age bracket while Els also is a past Optimist International champ winning the 1984 13-14 year bracket.
