Jamieson Delivers Home Of Golf Nation Top-10 Abu Dhabi HSBC Finish

Abu Dhabi, UAE … Scott Jamieson delivered Scotland golf a big New Year boost in banking a top-10 finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Jamieson, 36 birdied his closing three holes in a tournament best 65 for a 13-under par total and share eighth place in the whopping Stg 5.4m Rolex Series event.

Jamieson’s final round effort, that included a 14-footer for birdie at the last, was his lowest round since a 64 during last year’s Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

It was also the Florida-based Scot’s lowest UAE capital round in 24 loops of the National course with a prior low being 66 a year ago and also in the 2016 staging of the Abu Dhabi event.

He said:  “It was a good week’s work and I wish they were all that easy,” he said smiling.

“I not only played well today but I played well all week.  Like I said at the start of the week, scoring is always a bit tricky when you don’t have a scorecard in your hand, and that’s why I played a bit careful the first two rounds.

“Thursday’s and Friday’s can be like that in general as you try to get a feel for the golf course and everybody’s playing, so very happy to press on with it over the weekend.

“Over the four days I was a lot better tee-to-green than I was in a long time.  I did play well tee-to-green in Turkey and it was much better again this week while I putted well over the weekend to make as many birdies than I did.”

Jamieson has gone straight in at 16th on the Race to Dubai having pocketed a cool Euro 135,000.

And Jamieson’s superb result comes at the end of a week that begun with Scotland’s top-ranked Robert MacIntyre having to withdraw with a continuing righthand injury.

It’s unknown whether the 23-year old Scot will be fit to tee-up in this coming week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
