Stenson Reminds Tiger’s USA Team ‘Europe Rules’ In Winning Hero World Challenge With Rahm Runner-Up.

…… Albany, Bahamas

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson delivered Tiger Woods and his Presidents Cup team a reminder ‘Europe Still Rules the World’ in capturing the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas

Stenson superbly eagled the 15th in a final round 66 to win by a shot at 18-under par on the Albany course outside of Nassau.

And Spaniard and defending champ, Jon Rahm made it a European one-two finish muscling his way to a 66 for a 17-under total thanks to a birdie-eagle-birdie run from the 14th.

“I am very happy with the way I played this week,” said Stenson who lives locally.

“When you are up against 17 other top players in the world, to win is like an extra feather in the cap to beat them.”

Patrick Reed paid a hefty price for his controversial two-shot rules violation on Friday signing off with a 66 for third spot at 16-under par.

Woods was two shots further back posting a 69 for a 14-under score.

Woods, along with 10 members of his 12-man USA International Presidents Cup side were soon heading to nearby Nassau Airport to board a near 25-hour charter flight bound for Melbourne, Australia.

The flight includes a two-hour stop off in Mexico for refuelling before jetting into Melbourne Monday morning local time ahead of the start to Thursday’s start to play.

Woods said:   “We’ve got 23 hours in a tin can, so we’ve got a long way to go down there. The guys will be relaxing, doing whatever we need to do.

“We’ve got a bunch of stuff to sign for the tournament, so the guys will be taking care of that. Lots of reading, lots of card playing and lots of needling.”

And for Woods there was no escaping the incident involving Reed, who brushed sand from behind his ball in playing his shot during the third round.

Woods said:  “I’m sure Patrick will be asked about it when we get to Australia, but when it comes right down to it, we’ll just get ready to play and play.

“Whatever Patrick has put out there is he’s focused like he is in every Cup, he just goes out and gets his point. Next week will be no different.”

The USA Team head into the event having won 10 of the 12 encounters with one tied and the Internationals winning once in 1996 at this week’s Royal Melbourne host venue.
