McIlroy Confirms He Will Rent In Surrey & Reveals He’s Also Joined Queenwood

... Dubai, UAE

Rory McIlroy has confirmed he now intends to rent a London residence next year for his assault on the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, 149th Open Championship and the BMW Championship.

The World No. 2 also revealed he has joined the very exclusive Queenwood, a club where fellow Irish Paul McGinley and Darren Clarke are members, and only a very short drive from Wentworth and the Tour’s HQ.

It was first thought the McIlroy’s were looking to buy a house in leafy Surrey and where the four-time Major winner would be close to Heathrow Airport and from where he can relax and also where both sets of parents could reside if travelling to the UK.

Of course, that part of McIlroy’s plans will not change in renting.

It makes sense also given it’s such a short flight from London to Ireland while next year’s Open Championship is being staged at Royal St. George’s in Kent and he’ll be able to stay at his Surrey ‘home’ during September’s BMW PGA Championship.

“We were thinking of buying but we’re now probably going to rent somewhere,” he said.

“I’ve got a very busy stretch in the schedule next year where potentially it goes Irish Open, Memorial, Canadian Open, U.S. Open, Travelers, Memphis.

“That’s six in a row so I’m not going to play six in a row, so there will be one week there that I will have to take off.

“So potentially I could be take Memphis off, and then spend a couple of weeks in London before the Open Championship, go to Japan, play the Olympics, come back to London for a week, and then go to the FedExCup events.

“It was more renting a place somewhere because I joined Queenwood. So I already made plans to base myself for a couple of months next year there, especially with The Open at Royal St. George’s

“It was more an ease of getting around to where I need to go.  So, we’re not necessarily thinking of buying a place just yet but renting it and seeing how much we use it and how we go.”
