McIlroy Confirms For WGC – Mexico Championship & He’ll Be Taking His Own Food.

Rory McIlroy has officially confirmed he will contest next week’s ultra-lucrative WGC – Mexico Championship but indicated he will be taking his own food when he travels to Mexico City for a first time in two years.

McIlroy finished T7th in the inaugural 2017 Mexico Championship but elected not to tee-up a year ago.

“Yes, I entered the Mexico event on Monday,” he said.

“I was a sort of a little on the fence if I would return as I got sick last time but I’ve loaded-up on food, tablets and supplements and things like that.

“I have a dodgy stomach most of the time and I can eat anything and get an upset stomach very easy and for some reasons like competing out in China or whatever I have to be careful.”

And while returning to Mexico, McIlroy indicated he will not compete the week prior the Masters and that means not teeing-up in the April 4th starting Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.

No, not heading to San Antonio so after the WGC – Match-Play in Austin it will be the week off and then I will be turning my attention to getting ready for Augusta,” he said.

“I’ve been to San Antonio once before after missing the cut the week before at the Shell Houston Open but then it was a last-minute thing to tee-up in San Antonio just to help boost my confidence before Augusta.

“I just feel with the way my game is I am not really searching for anything, so I will stick with what have planned.

“Also, I know Augusta pretty well and while they’ve changed the fifth hole, apart from that it is sort of the same.”
