Wallace Grabs Back-To-Back Birdies & Then Fined £3,000 For Slow Play.

Dubai, UAE ….

England’s Matt Wallace bravely saw a lighter side after being slapped with a £3,000 ‘slow play’ fine on his debut at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

This season’s triple Tour winning Wallace was adjudged to have taken too long to putt out for par on the ninth hole and this after bizarrely being timed in birdiing both the seventh and eighth holes on the Earth Course.

The Tour’s Chief Referee, Andy McFee was waiting for Wallace as he headed to the scorer’s hut having ended his round by also birding four of his closing five holes in a round of 68 to be superbly sharing fifth place in the closing Rolex Series event.

Wallace had been advised by McFee he was ‘on the clock’ during the time he birdied both the seventh and eighth holes.

“I then came to the ninth, and the hardest hole on the golf course, and had a 20-footer for par and I made it but I was timed being over in making that second putt,” said Wallace.

“The good thing, I guess, I paid for the fine in holing the second putt (smiling).

“Though it was frustrating and it kind of put me out of flow for the next three to four holes so much so, I played those holes (10 to 13) in two-over.

“The thing is I don’t consider myself to be a slow player as evident in playing the three holes (7 to 9) in two-under so I saved time playing good golf.

“Hopefully, I can make up the fine this week”.

The very affable Wallace has brilliantly won three times this season and arrived in Dubai after a sterling fifth place finish in last week’s Nedbank Challenge.
