Knox Considering Playing More On European Tour After Irish Open Success

Gullane, Scotland …

New Irish Open champion Russell Knox reveals he is considering playing more on the European Tour after his recent run of success.

The Florida-based Scot was joint runner-up in last fortnight’s French Open and then last Sunday brilliantly holed not one but two 40-foot birdie putts on the 18th green to capture the Rory McIlroy hosted event.

It was Knox’s maiden victory on the European Tour and his third victory in three different countries after capturing the WGC – HSBC Champions event in China in late 2015 and then winning the 2016 Travelers Championship in Conecticut.

Knox’s victory effort at Ballyliffin has seen the Scot not only move back inside the world’s top-50 but leap 20 places to fifth on the Race to Dubai.

And his efforts back in Europe has prompted Knox to consider to play more in Europe and given he is a full European Tour member.

“I thought about that to be honest. I haven’t — I mean, yeah, it might to be perfectly honest,” he said.

“Especially now where my FedEx Cup ranking is compared to my Race to Dubai ranking. I mean, I went way up in two weeks. I mean, that’s important. If you can finish super high in The Race to Dubai, that opens a lot of doors, too, for next year.

“I mean, I will play mostly in the US, obviously I’ve said that since day one, it’s home for me now.

“But yeah, it does change. And what happens here in the next two weeks probably will significantly affect that.”
