Gullane Glitch See Mickelson Head To Carnoustie For Two ‘Extra’ Practice Rounds.

Gullane, Scotland …

Five-time Major winning Phil Mickelson will head to Carnoustie Saturday morning after missing the cut in the Aberdeen Standard Investment Scottish Open at Gullane.

Mickelson, and a back-to-back Scottish and Open Champion in 2013, was never in the mix over the two rounds posting scores of 70 and 69 for a one-under par tally.

Even with an eagle ‘3’ at the second, Mickelson missed the cut by two shots.

“I have some work to do on my game, I didn’t play great,” he said.

“Now I’ll have a couple of extra days to go over to Carnoustie and try to get it done.

“I’m not quite as sharp as I’ve been earlier in the year but I have Andrew here to help me. It’s not far off but I have some work to do.”

And after having played a practice round at Le National, and venue for this year’s Ryder Cup ahead of the Scottish Open, Mickeslon was asked if this may have affected his Gullane preparations.

“I knew the first round was going to be tough but thought I would get better as the tournament went on. If I could have made a couple of putts on the back nine and made the cut I would have had an extra two rounds,” he said.

“Instead I’ll head over to Carnoustie early.

“I’ll probably practice around this area on Saturday morning, either North Berwick or out here at Gullane and then drive up in the afternoon.

“I thought that Gullane was really a fun golf course to play and a great way to get ready for next with the links style of play.
