Spieth Reveals Travelling With The Claret Jug Was Like ‘A Kid In A Stroller’.

TPC River Highlands, CT …

In a month’s time Open Champion Jordan Spieth will hand back the famed Claret Jug.

Spieth captured a third Major Championship and a first Open with an emphatic three-shot victory last July at Royal Birkdale.

And since being handed the most famous trophy in all of golf the Texan revealed, and ahead of his defence of this week’s Travelers Championship, that he’s wheeled the Claret Jug about in it’s protective casing as though it was a ‘kid in a stroller’.

“The Claret Jug is with me this week and for the first three to four months after I won it was always next to me,” said Spieth.

“It was like travelling like I had a kid in a stroller.  I was always walking with it in the airport as it was always with me.”

Of course, Spieth has passed the Claret Jug amongst his family and friends and also leant it to those in his ‘backroom’ team.

“The members of my team got to see it while my caddy, Michael took it home for Thanksgiving and for a little bit over Christmas,” said Spieth.

“Then my agent Jay had it with him.  My dad got to take it to where he grew up.

“So it’s done what would probably be done, and if I were to win it again, and hopefully I will get the chance to, I’d probably do the same thing”.

But after this week’s event, and Speith’s final tournament before the July 19th commencement to his defence of The Open he has one more stop with the Claret Jug.

“I do want to host some of the family and friends over for dinner and jsut kind of have the Claret Jug to toast out of, at least for a week,” he said.
