McIlroy Joint Travelers Favourite With Koepka, Spieth & Thomas But Third In Carnoustie Betting

Despite missing the halfway cut in last week’s U.S. Open Rory McIlroy finds himself joint betting favourite for this week’s PGA Tour Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

McIlroy shares favouritism at a handsome 12/1  with PaddyPower for Thursday’s start to the $US 7m event and this, in part, due to McIlroy’s stunning 2017 final round 64 on the TPC River Highlands course.

Sharing top favouritism with McIlroy is now double US Open winning Brooks Koepka and defending champion, Jordan Spieth.

Of course, we all remember Spieth’s fantastic celebration with his caddy a year ago in holing a greenside bunker shot at the first extra hole for birdie to defeat fellow American Daniel Berger.

Paddy Power also has World No. 2 Justin Thomas at 12/1.

England’s Tommy Fleetwood, who tees-up in this week’s European Tour BMW International Open on the outskirts of Cologne, is a clear 7/1 favourtie coming off Sunday’s closing 63 to grab second at Shinnecock Hills.

Looking ahead four weeks to the 147th Open Championship and McIlroy is third favourite to capture a second Claret Jug at 14/1 with World No. 1 Dustin Johnson currently at 9/1 and defending champ, Spieth at 12/1.

Tiger Woods will head into his first Open Championship at 16/1 while Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, who defeated Sergio Garcia in a play-off for the 2007 Open and when last at Carnoustie, is presently 66/1 and with the likes of fellow Open winner Zach Johnson plus Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Bryson DeChambeau, Shane Lowry and the Masters winning duo of Charl Schwartzel and Bubba Watson also at 66/1 to win the year’s third Major.

And if you were looking for a ‘nostalgic’ £1 bet then Paddy Power has seven former Open Champions – David Duval, Sandy Lyle, Tom Lehman, John Daly, Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton and Darren Clarke at 500/1.
