A P McCoy Reckons McIlroy Could Have Ridden A BMW PGA Round Of 60.

Wentworth, Surrey ….

Legendary jockey and fellow Northern Irishman A P McCoy reckon’s Rory McIlroy could have easily shot a round of 60 on day two of the BMW PGA Championship here at Wentworth.

McCoy, who knows McIlroy well, rode a record 4,358 winners, and was the UKs champion jockey for a record 20 consecutive times, every year he was a professional.

The now retired 44-year old, along with Irish legend J P McManus, were afforded official inside-the-ropes access to walk all 18 holes in the group featuring McIlroy, Alex Noren and Lee Westwood.

And McCoy, who was knighted by the Queen in 2016, was clearly impressed.

“Rory could easily have shot 60 as he holed a few putts but a few also slipped by as well,” said McCoy who had competed in Wednesday’s Pro-Am alongside Padraig Harrington.

“He is able to do things with a golf ball that not many people can do.”

“Rory plyaed great and I was very lucky to walk round and watch the boys up closely with Alex Noren, Lee Westwood and Rory not making a bogey between them.

“It was perfect golf. Lee was unlucky not to shoot a lower score and so was Rory really.

“He hit a three wood on the 18th tee the highest draw you could ever see and he was still fifty or sixty yards ahead of both Alex Noren and Lee Westwood and they hit drivers. When you have that capability you can win any tournament.

“If you are a jockey you could always blame the horse. But if you are a Rory McIlroy or Lee Westwood then it’s only you and your golf clubs. You can’t blame any one else.”
