Harrington Believes Woods Will Be A Carnoustie Open Championship Contender.

Carnoustie, Scotland …..

Tiger Woods will not want reminding the last time he was at Carnoustie he drove his opening tee shot at the 2007 Open Championship out-of-bounds left of the first fairway and into the Barrie Burn.

Woods eventually shared 12th place behind Ireland’s Padraig Harrington.

Harrington captured a first Major in defeating Spaniard Sergio Garcia over a four-hole play-off and then headed to Royal Birkdale a year later to successfully defend the famed Claret Jug.

Harrington has contested every Open Championship since while Woods will return to golf’s oldest Major for a first occasion since missing the halfway cut in 2015 at Royal Liverpool.

Padraig Harrington beleives Tiger Woods can be a contender in this year’s Open Championship.

And while Woods did not contend in the recent Masters, Harrington believes the former longtime World No. 1 could be a force when the 147th Open Championship returns to Carnoustie since 2007 in July.

“Tiger’s got the game and the experience and he looks like he’s in fine form”, said Harrington.

“A lot of people would like to be in his shoes going into The Open. Obviously, a lot of pressure and attention paid to him certainly during the Masters, but by the time it comes to The Open, the U.S. Open under his belt, it will be business as usual.

“So, it will be quite possible that — you know, he’s certainly got the physical game again. Mentally, he won’t be as under. Like I said, he’ll be more business as usual.

“Now that you say it, I think he definitely could be a contender, and he has — he likes the golf course, I think. Well, all ball-strikers like the golf course.

“So, I think he’d be very comfortable on this. If not under the radar a bit more than the Masters, at least familiar with the attention again”.
