Knox Declares It Would Be A ‘Disgrace’ If He Failed To Qualify For Chicago.

TPC Boston, MA ….

Russell Knox bluntly confessed it would be a ‘disgrace’ if he did not perform week this week in Boston and qualify for next fortnight’s penultimate FedEx Cup event in Chicago.

Knox is contesting the $US 8.75m event at TPC Boston for a fourth straight year having finished T26th in 2014, T12th in 2015 and share 15thlast year.

“I have always enjoyed playing on this golf course and my results reflect that but in saying that the finishing holes are tough and I have sort of messed-up near the end of my rounds because those top-20s could have easily been top-10s,” he said.

“It is long golf course and there is a premium on hitting fairways, and if you are not on the fairway you can’t attack.

“It is different to last week as the fairways are so much wider and the greens were very penal, so I didn’t really enjoy last week.

“It was just a massive bonus the further you hit it whereas that is not so much a factor this week.

“But the good thing there is still plenty of gas in the tank and I feel great.

Russell Knox putts out on the last during the Pro-Am.

“In fact, I feel super-energised to go out this week and play really well and given the way my game feels so close to feeling the best I have ever felt”.

While Knox continues to target a third Tour victory his immediate goal is to improve his current 65th FedEx Cup standing and having dropped five spots in missing last week’s halfway cut in the Northern Trust.

Also, Knox needs to be inside the top-60 at the end of this week to qualify for next fortnight’s BMW Championship in Chicago and the penultimate event of the Play-Off Series.

“If I wasn’t to make it to Chicago I would very disappointed.  It would be a disgrace given my good results of late including that fifth at the Bridgestone,” he said.

And then he delights his youngs fans with autographs.

“So, I look forward to playing well this week and at least giving myself a chance to not only make the BMW but qualify also for the Tour Championship.”

Fellow Scot Martin Laird is making his eighth showing but has endured a horror run in his last four showings in missing the cut.

Laird jumped 12 spots to 45th on the FedEx Cup standings after last week’s 20th place finish on New York’s Long Island.

And like Knox, Laird’s big goal outside a another PGA Tour victory is to break into the top-30 that would qualify him also for the Tour Championship.
