Injured ‘Beef’ Joins Fleetwood In Withdrawing From British Masters.

Race to Dubai front-running Tommy Fleetwood and popular Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston have been forced out of this week’s British Masters.

Fleetwood, 26 advised the European Tour he has elected to stay with his partner and manager, Clare who is soon to give birth to the couple’s child.

“I wanted to give myself every chance of playing this week, but being there at the birth of your child is a special moment in anyone’s life and I would not want to miss it,” said Fleetwood.

French Open winner Tommy Fleetwood withdraws from the British Masters ahead of the birth of his child.

“Lee Westwood has done a great job as tournament host of the British Masters and I want to wish him, Sky Sports, and everyone else involved all the best for what should be a great week at Close House.

“I look forward to returning to playing soon and hopefully I can have a strong end to the season and compete for the Race to Dubai title.”

Fleetwood, with two victories (Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and French Open) along with two seconds, currently leads the Race to Dubai by nealy one million points from Spain’s Sergio Garcia who is competing this week at Close House near Newcastle.

Johnston withdrew Tuesday morning UK time citing a shoulder injury and the same concern that forced the affable pro out of last month’s PGA Championship following a first round 78.

Johnston tweeted his disappointment saying:  “Really gutted to be missing British Masters this week.  Hope all goes well @WestwoodLee @SkySports hope to be back for Italy”.

It has been a frustrating season for the 28-year old who also lost out on retaining PGA Tour membership and will concentrate next year full-time on the European Tour.
