Ogilvy Striving For Top-5 Wyndham Reward To Qualify For FedEx Play-Offs.

Greensboro, NC …

Geoff Ogilvy is quietly-confident of a T5th finish or higher at the Wyndham Championship to qualify for next week’s Northern Trust and the first event of the FedEx Cup Play-Off Series.

That is the PGA Tour forecast after Ogilvy produced a second straight four-under par 66 to move into a share of 23rd place at eight-under par.

Ogilvy went into the round in continuing heatwave conditions trailing nine strokes from the lead and immediately making inroads with three birdies in his opening six holes.

The former U.S. Open winner then bogeyed nine and regrouped to complete the inward nine of the Sedgefield Country Club course in two-under thanks to birdies at 15 and 16.

World No. 9 Henrik Stenson heads the $US 5.8m event thanks to birding four of his closing six holes in a second straight four-under 66 to move one clear of the field at 16-under par.

Ogilvy arrived in Greensboro right on the bubble in 125th place on the FedEx Cup standing in what is the final ‘regular’ event of the 2016/17 wraparound schedule.

“Today was pretty good while the finish yesterday was pretty nice,” he said.

“It was nice to know I could hit the proper shots when I needed to hit the proper shots. That’s kind of like half the battle of golf, I guess, is finding out if it’s still there when it needs to be, and it was, especially I really needed it yesterday”.

Now the 40-year has all to play for over the final round and also needing no doubt to produce his lowest Wyndham score in 30 rounds of the course since making his debut in 2001.

“I am probably too far back to consider winning the tournament but I’m far enough up to probably consider having a Top-10 or something with a really good round tomorrow and I don’t know what I need for Top 125 but that’s obviously — got other people have stuff to say about that. If I finish Top 25- ish, it will be all right,” he said.

“If I keep playing like I’m playing, and I didn’t make everything today but I hit some nice putts and a few went in, and now do that again tomorrow and I should be heading to New York, hopefully.

“I will not be watching any scoreboards won’t really be watching and I will kind of figure things like this is whatever is going to happen is going to happen.

“Thinking about it is not going to make me play any better. Go out, try to have a really low score, try to get up there in the Top 10, even higher with a really low one and add them up at the end and see what happens.”
