Knox Returns To Wyndham To Make Ammends For Disappointing Season.

Greensboro, NC…

Russel Knox is determined to make amends for a ‘disappointing’ Majors year over the final handful events of his season.

Scotland’s top-ranked golfer has entered this week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina for just the third time in his career.

For most, the event won by fellow Scot Sandy Lyle in 1985 and 1988, is a ‘Last Chance Saloon’ given it is the last regular event of the 2016/16 wraparound PGA Tour season ahead of start next week of the FedEx Cup Play-Off Series.

Knox is currently ranked 61st and five places behind fellow Scot Martin Laird and for both to be assured of contesting the pening three of the four Play-Off events.

However, in order to tee-up in the Tour Championship in Atlanta on September 21st both will need to be among the top-30 on the money list.

Knox has contested 21 events this season with a best of third late last year in the Mayakoba Championship while he was fifth a fortnight ago in the WGC- Bridgestone Invitational.

Sadly, he missed the cut in all four Majors, including last week’s PGA Championship with scores of 77 and 73, while he sat out the weekend rounds in the Players Championship.

“I decided to come back and play the Wyndham because I do feel like I am playing well and I feel very confident about my game”, he said.

“I had a good finish two weeks ago at the Bridgestone and I thought inside sitting on the couch at home this week is not going to help me so I am contesting the Wyndham.

“I feel super fresh and it is not like last year as this time of year as I recall feeling exhausted as I played a lot of golf and had won the Travelers.

“So, this year in having missed more cuts I have a feeling that I have hardly played and it is fresh, and I almost feel like I am on the cusp of an incredible run.

“I am definitely into the first two FedEx Cup events so I know I am going to have to play decent in this week and in those first two if I am to move onto the third event and also get myself into the Tour Championship.

“So, while it has been a slightly disappointing year, and including missing the cut in the four Majors, if I was to win this week or one of the first two Play-Off events, then all of a sudden it can turn into the best year of my career”.

Knox and his fellow competitors this week have already been greeted by very hot and humid conditions and with the forecast to get hotter as the event progresses.

A week ago, Knox led the PGA Championship with birdies on his opening two holes but never recovered in dropping eight shots over his closing 13 holes.

“It was a tough week on a very tough golf course and I thought Thursday morning was extremely difficult as the course played very long and the greens were super fast”, he said.

“I ended-up shooting six-over but I played better than that so it was disappointing to shoot that score while I Friday I was fine but just messed-up 15 taking a double.

“It was a good test on a great course but Quail Hollow is not my favourite and that is why I like this Greensboro course as it is more up my alley.”
