Cameron Smith’s Coach Returns To Australia Delighted With Wyndham Efforts.

Greensboro, NC…

Grant Field was heading home to Queensland confident ultra-talented Cameron Smith is back on track heading into this week’s FedEx Play-Series.

Prior to Field’s arrival into Greensboro, North Carolina last Monday Smith had missed five of six PGA Tour events since he combined with Swede Jonas Blixt to win the Zurich Classic.

Thanks to his work with Field, Smith displayed the form that took him to victory in New Orleans producing rounds of 63, 69, 70 and 63 to share seventh place in the Wyndham Championship.

Smith commenced his final round in dramatic style holing his second shot for an eagle ‘2’ at the first and while he bogeyed the second, he then landed his second shot at the par five, fifth hole to just six-feet and holed the eagle ‘3’ putt.

Birdies followed at eight, 13, 15 and the 17th hole and much to the delight of Field who was watching on from behind the ropes in the $US 5.8m event.

And in the process of securing his fifth too-10 on the season Smith jumped five spots from 45th to 40th on the FedEx Cup standings.

“Cameron played really well and to finish with a 63 was very pleasing”, said Field.

“He was a little unfortunate on Friday and Saturday as I feel he played good all week and then to finish with a 63 that could have been easily a 62 or lower as he hit the edge of the cup on about three or four occasions today.

“I came over here on Monday and we worked on the things that we have always done, and that was the get Cameron back to playing like we know Cameron can play.

“He has not been quite aggressive with his play as he was near the start of the season, so we worked on that along with a number of other little things in his game.

“So there was no alarm bells ringing and we just got Cameron working on those things he does well.

“It was good for me to also look at stuff that has been happening the last few weeks or so on his game and to be here over in the States for this week and help him out.

“So, after his great showing this week Cameron is in really good shape heading to Play-Offs and that was our goal this week to try and get some momentum going into the Play-Offs.

“The great thing also it is good to see Cameron bounce back so well here in Greensboro after some average weeks, so that is very pleasing”.

Field’s visit to Greensboro was his third journey to U.S. this year for the Pelican Waters attached coach.

And just as delighted with his efforts was Smith who not only heads buoyed to his first FedEx Cup Play-Off Series but has jumped-up 13 places and back to World No. 157.

“It is a great last round to take into my first Play-Off Series,” said Smith.

“I am very pleased with what I managed to achieve this week and having Grant here this week has seen me advance a long way from where I was last week.

“I felt also I could have shot 63 or lower for the four days but then things didn’t all go my way on Friday and Saturday.

“My play on Friday and Saturday was not all that wrong and I showed today with that 63 that the game is in very good shape heading to Long Island”.
