Wunderbar .. Wade Ormsby Drives Into The BMW International Open Lead.

Less than a week after ending a 16-year wait to contest a first Major and Wade Ormsby has jumped straight into the overtaking lane to lead the BMW International Open in suburban Munich.

Ormsby had flown from Milwaukee to Munich after missing the cut in the U.S. Open but then the experience of competing at Erin Hills, along with the guidance of his coach and former European Tour player, Darren Cole certainly paid dividends with Ormsby shooting an impressive eight under par 64.

It is the Adelaide born golfers best score in over three years since a similar 64 on day two of the 2014 Africa Open..

Ormsby raced to a strong start to reach the turn in six under and then grabbed a further two birdies over his inward nine, including one at the ninth and his final hole to end the day one clear of clear of Belgium’s Thomas Detry.

“I kept on hitting it where I wanted to and I holed some putts. I had a pretty hot putter early on and that got me going and I kept on hitting it down the barrel. So to hang in there and finish it off, it was nice,” said Ormsby.

“This place has always dished out pretty low scores, so every time you come here, you know it and you’ve got to get on with it. I said at the start of the week to my caddie, Richard, ‘I think two-under nines for the whole week is going to be my goal’, because I’ve always struggled around here going low enough.

“I had to reassess after about five or six holes because it going well. It’s just nice to start the tournament well and get off to the right foot. I’ve been working pretty hard on the golf swing.

“The air is really good here at the moment, the ball is going a long way. So I’ll just keep pressing and keep trying to do what I’m doing and keep moving forward I guess.”

Detry, 24 holed out with his second shot at the par four 13th for an eagle en route to a seven under 65, leaving him one clear of an experienced collection of seasoned winners.

Masters Champion Sergio Garcia, Dane Thorbjørn Olesen and Dutchman Joost Luiten – who all signed for six under 66s – have 22 European Tour titles between them, while Open Champion Henrik Stenson and Tommy Fleetwood are among the 12 players a shot further back on five under.

And on four under par, and already well placed is Brett Rumford in signing for a four under 68.
