Harold Varner 111 Confirms Defence Of Australian PGA Championship.

Fort Worth, Texas …..

Harold Varner 111 confirmed he will return to Australia later this year to defend his Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland.

The 26-year old born in famed Akron, Ohio followed-up his second-place finish after a play-off in 2o15 to win the Joe Kirkwood trophy last December by two shots courtesy of nine birdies in a closing round 65.

It was Varner 111s first success as a professional and he celebrated drinking champagne from the trophy.

“I will be back there for sure to defend my title,” he said ahead of teeing-up at this week’s PGA Tour Dean & Deluca Invitational at Fort Worth, Texas.

“It has just been awesome to go down to Australia and then after initially finishing runner-up to then go one place better late last year.

“I realised back in 2o15 when I finished second that the golf course really suited my game and while the Gold Coast is the only place I have been to in Australia, it’s going to be cool to go back as defending champion.

“And to have won one of Australia’s great golf events as my first win as a professional has meant a lot to me and my career now on the PGA Tour”.

However, Varner 111s start to the New Year was not what he expected having missed the halfway cut in his opening three events of 2o17 on the PGA Tour.

But then a T34th place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational was the beginning of five four-rounders in succession for the affable American.

Varner 111 is currently 128th on the FedEx Cup points table and four places higher on the World Rankings at No. 132.

“Winning the Australian PGA, and joining some of the greats of the game as winning the trophy was a good lift for me going in this year and while I did not play all that well, to have won in that field was great for me going forward”, he said.

“So, I will continue to build on the opportunity winning presented to me and hopefully by the time I do get back to RoyalPines I will have another victory to savour”.
