Tyrrell Hatton Has Georgia On His Mind Day One Honda Classic.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL …

Tyrrell Hatton clearly had a maiden Masters appearance on his mind wearing Augusta-green trousers to shoot a two under par 68 on day one of Honda Classic at PGA National in Florida.

The 25-year old England star, who seems to like wearing green, capped his round with three birdies in succession from his 13th to move to three under par.

Hatton, competing in the £5.12m event on an invitation, then double bogeyed the par three 17th, and the final hole of the famed ‘Bear Trap’ before ending on a positive note in chipping 40-feet from the back of the green to near tap-in distance for his birdie.

England’s Tyrrell Hatton enjoys wearing Augusta green.

“Two under is a decent score but then I didn’t feel that comfortable out there even though this is my first time playing the course”, he said.

“It’s just that my swing didn’t feel that great and it was just a case of grinding it out but then the three birdies in a row was really nice but 17 just killed me with my ball ending up on the down slope of a bunker.

“But then it was nice to finish with a birdie and a 68 is a good building block going into tomorrow.”

The reigning Alfred Dunhill Links Champion, who was also runner-up in last year’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship and then third in the recent Dubai Desert Classic, will be making his Masters debut in some six weeks time.

Hatton arrived in Florida ranked No. 18 in the world that is big leap compared to a year ago when he ranked 114th in the world.

His impressive end-of-season form along with Hatton’s lofty ranking ensures into all four Majors in 2017 including teeing-up at Royal Birkdale after finishing T5th a year ago at Royal Troon.

“It was a great year for me last year and this year has also started off pretty well in finishing third in Dubai”, he said.

“So I am hoping to keep this form going”.

Hatton has qualified for next week’s WGC – Mexico Championship in Mexico City and after week off he’s accepted an invitation to contest the  Arnold Palmer Invitational along with qualifying for the following week’s WGC – Dell Match-Play Championship in Austin, Texas.

And then it is a week off before making his Masters debut.

But then Hatton intends staying on in the States to contest the RBC Heritage in the week following the Masters ahead of a three-week break and then the Players Championship.

“It’s a really good schedule and I am really looking forward to playing in all events especially the Masters”, he said.

“I won’t be going to Augusta beforehand and while I thought about going up there the week before Bay Hill, I think I will now wait till I get there the week of the Masters itself”.
